What are CTC's and what do they indicate?
CTC’s, or Circulating Tumor Cells, are cancer cells that separate from a primary cancer tumor and travel through the blood stream or lymphatic system to other parts of the body. The number of CTC’s in a patient’s blood sample correspond to overall patient prognosis and survival, and are an indicator of a patient’s response to treatment.
The CELLSEARCH® Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) Test is the only FDA-cleared test that can capture and count CTC's for metastatic breast, prostate or colorectal cancer. CTC’s are an accurate predictor of progression free survival and overall patient survival, allowing for well-informed clinical decisions.
What are some of the advantages of the
CELLSEARCH® Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) Test?
You are able to reduce the uncertainty and interval between decision points.
Health care providers can use the CELLSEARCH® Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) Test to assess the outcome of a line of therapy much earlier and more frequently than what is typical with traditional imaging (around 3 months and in some cases longer). Changes in a patient’s prognosis can be readily identified when changes in the number of CTC’s are measured.
You can reduce the shared costs and side effects of ineffective treatments.
Earlier and more frequent information is invaluable to the physician, the patient and their families because:
immunotherapies can be much more costly,
detecting changes in a patient’s prognosis earlier may allow for a change in the treatment plan or other informed decisions and
cancer patients may be able to avoid unnecessary side effects of therapies that are either not effective or that have become ineffective over the course of the treatment.
Physicians and patients have a non-invasive alternative to biopsies.
Tissue for biopsies is not always available after the initial diagnosis and biopsy. Onco Decision Dx only needs a blood sample that can be collected anywhere in the United States.
CTC’s are an accurate predictor of progression free survival and overall patient survival, allowing for the physician and patient to make personalized therapeutic decisions.
